Improving Pupil Attendance – HERO Initiative
The videos and resources on this page provide some detail in respect of a pilot project delivered by the school leadership team in conjunction with the school council at Knockmore Primary School, Lisburn.
This mainstream school, which has a major focus on inclusion, currently has 49% of pupils with Statements and 57% SEN across 7 specialist units.
Pupils at Knockmore Primary School have produced Attendance ‘HERO’ Resources in conjunction with the Education Welfare Service.
HERO is an acronym of one of the pupils’ main goals of being Here, Every day, Ready and On time.
The videos below tell the story of how this pupil led initiative improved pupil attendance by 4% points and how they have embedded a culture of attending regularly in a child centered way.
