Education Minister John O’Dowd has announced capital viability for four Irish-Medium primary schools.
The schools confirmed for capital viability are:
- Gaelscoil Léim an Mhadaidh, Limavady.
- Gaelscoil Eoghain, Cookstown.
- Gaelscoil na mBeann, Kilkeel.
- Gaelscoil na Móna, Belfast.
Commenting on the decision, the Minister said:
“In recent years we have seen increasing demand from parents to have their children educated through the medium of Irish. This is significant at a time when we see an overall fall in the numbers of children in our schools.
I am pleased that I can now announce capital viability status for a further four Irish-medium schools, which have flourished and proved they are viable, sustainable schools which will now become an integral part of the schools’ estate. I would pay tribute to the teachers, parents and children who have worked hard to develop these schools and ensure their continued growth.”
