Weir approves establishment of a statutory nursery unit at Carr’s Glen Primary School, Belfast

Education Minister, Peter Weir has approved two linked development proposals reshaping education provision at Carr’s Glen Primary School.

News Update

From September 2017 or as soon as possible thereafter, the school’s enrolment number will reduce to 420 places and a 26 place part-time nursery unit will be established.

The Minister said:

“My decisions today address an anomaly which existed in relation to the admissions and enrolment numbers at Carr’s Glen Primary School and also address a shortfall in pre-school places in this area through the establishment of a statutory nursery unit at the school.”

Concluding the Minister said:

“I want to ensure that at least one year of pre-school education is available to every family that wants it and I wish Carr’s Glen Primary School continued success.”

Notes to editors: 

  1. On 24 May 2016 the Education Authority (EA) published two development proposals to reshape education provision at Carr’s Glen Primary School, Belfast. DP 467 proposed a reduction in the school’s enrolment number from 472 to 420 to align with the school’s admissions number of 60; DP 468 proposed the establishment of a 26 place (part-time) statutory nursery unit.
