Pupils and staff of Omagh Integrated primary today celebrated the official opening of their new school.
The £7million project comprises 14 classrooms for over 330 pupils, a nursery unit for up to 26 children and a school funded wrap around care centre.
Speaking at the official opening, Fiona Hepper, Deputy Secretary at the Department of Education said: “This is a day of celebration for all the pupils and staff of Omagh Integrated primary. The school has come a long way since it opened in 1990 with just 32 pupils housed in three mobile classrooms with a further 24 children in a nursery class.
“Working in the Department of Education, I always welcome the opportunity to see at first hand the significant benefits of capital investment in our school estate. The opening of any new school is something to be enjoyed, especially when you see the positive changes it can bring to the daily life of a school, not just for the pupils and staff – but also for the wider community.
“The Department has invested over £7 million in this wonderful new school. I want to wish you every success as you embark on this new chapter.”
Construction work on the new school began in February 2017 with the school opening in late June 2018.
