The Department for Employment and Learning, along with the Department of Education, hosted the third Teacher Education Conference on the theme of Teacher Education in a Climate of Change, which took place in the City Hotel, Londonderry, on 21 and 22 November 2005
Review of teacher education
The Conference was part of the ongoing major review of teacher education to ensure that the profession is best placed to cope with the changes facing the education sector in the coming years.
Conference themes
The Conference focused on the key themes of Early Teacher Education and Career-Long Professional Development and presented propositions for the future. It provided a key opportunity for delegates to inform the two Departments' development of final proposals for the future of teacher education in Northern Ireland.
The Conference gave the key stakeholders from the teacher education sector the opportunity to:
- identify and agree what changes needed to be made to the current model of teacher education in order to achieve coherent and career-long professional progression
- consider and comment on the principles and propositions derived from the commissioned studies
